Dark Night of the Soul

danger-mouse-dark-night1

As music and film lovers, we’ve all been privy to a few ’shot in the dark’ collaborations where seemingly overconfident producers and songwriters team up with a slew of other artists to create something that is larger than life.

Danger Mouse has always set his sights high.  Past collaborations have included Madlib, MF Doom, Damon Albarn, and Beck: which have all been successes in their own right.  But this time around, Mr. Burton has decided to shoot for the stars by teaming up with Sparklehorse and David Lynch, of all people!!!   ‘Dark Night of The Soul’ is an audiovisual collaborative journey that includes the likes of Julian Casablanca, Frank Black, Gruff Rhys, and Iggy Pop to name a few.  Sounds like a tribute to the ‘Lead Singers for Great Bands Past’.

But in all seriousness, pretty much every song you’ll hear from this album is unique and entertaining.  And to give you a little peak into the Flaming Lips new LP, here’s their collabo with Danger Mouse and Co.

Daniel Merriweather vs. Gigamesh

Daniel Merriweather

R$S favourite, Gigamesh, dropped us a line the other day with his brand new track submitted for the RCRDLBL.com Daniel Merriweather Remix Contest.  Whether it’s Radiohead or Animal Collective, Gigamesh always manages to make a song his own without losing the original genius of a track.

Daniel Merriweather - Mark Ronson’s latest project - lands somewhere between JT and Jamie Liddel.  While he posseses the swaveness of Mr. Timberlake, he’s got the soul and quirkiness of Mr. Liddel.  Gigamesh works his charm on Merriweather’s latest single, ‘Change’ which also features the supremely rhymes of the current mixtape king, Wale.  Go vote for Gigamesh’s remix by downloading the track at RCRDLBL.com

84.85

jayandcass

If you haven’t heard of these boys, get familiar.

84.85 consist of Cass and Jay, two regular dudes with some sort of superhuman ability to rock any performance handed to them. Few local acts can boast such a strong stage presence, but hand these guys a mic, two turntables and a mixer and prepare for a sweaty, beer-stained, crowd-on-the-stage, hands-in-the-air kind of madness. Don’t believe me? Check out 40 and a Fistfight and Breathe and tell me you’re not intrigued. With Cass’ fast-paced, aggressive lyrics and Jay’s equally intense production, these tracks are enough to ignite any party. Let that bitch breathe.
